Privacy Policy
Dark Matter Research provides impersonal, educational and informational content only. Nothing on this platform is investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any security. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we handle it — it does not change the educational nature of the product.
This Privacy Policy describes how Dark Matter Research (“Dark Matter Research,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about you when you visit our website, create an account, subscribe to our newsletter, or use our educational platform (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
Dark Matter Research is the publisher of educational market research and analytics. It is operated separately from, and is not, any private fund managed by its founder. The Service does not offer interests in any fund, does not solicit fund investors, and does not present any fund’s performance. Please see the disclaimer at the end of this policy.
01Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- →Email address. When you subscribe to our educational newsletter or create an account, we collect your email address so we can deliver content and communicate with you.
- →Account information. Information you provide when registering, such as your name, login credentials, and any preferences or settings you configure.
- →Brokerage & trading data. If you choose to connect a brokerage account (via SnapTrade), we receive read-only information about your holdings, positions, and transaction history. We also store any watchlists and trade-journal entries you create. We never receive your brokerage login credentials. This data is used only to power your personalized analysis and is isolated to your account.
- →Questions you ask the Oracle. The market questions you type and the market-context the engines assemble are processed by a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate educational analysis. Where you have connected a brokerage, only de-identified portfolio exposure (e.g. relative weights) is included in that processing — not your account values, units, or identifiers.
- →Usage and analytics data. Information about how you interact with the Service — pages and dashboards viewed, features used, and session activity — used to improve the product.
- →Device, IP, and browser data. Your IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and approximate location derived from your IP, collected automatically when you access the Service.
- →Payment data. When you purchase a subscription or program, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and processes your payment details directly. We never receive or store your full card numbers. We retain only limited billing metadata such as subscription status, plan, and the last four digits or card brand returned to us by Stripe.
02How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- →Provide, operate, and maintain the Service and your account.
- →Deliver the educational newsletter and other content you request.
- →Process payments and manage your subscription or program enrollment.
- →Send transactional messages, such as account, billing, and security notices.
- →Analyze usage to understand engagement and improve our features and content.
- →Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- →Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to provide individualized investment advice. The Service is impersonal educational content delivered the same way to all subscribers.
03Third-Party Processors
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to operate the Service. These processors handle data only on our behalf and under contractual obligations to protect it:
Stores your account credentials, profile, watchlists, trade journal, and application data. Provides login and session management.
If you choose to connect a brokerage, SnapTrade provides the read-only link and returns your account holdings and transaction history so the platform can show analysis of your positions. We never receive your brokerage login credentials. You can disconnect at any time.
Processes the market questions you ask and the market-context data the engines assemble, to generate educational research. Where you connect a brokerage, only de-identified portfolio exposure (e.g. relative weights) is included — not your account values, units, or other personal identifiers.
Securely processes subscription and program payments. Stripe handles your card data directly — we never receive or store full card numbers.
Delivers transactional emails and the educational newsletter you opt into. Processes your email address and delivery metadata.
The engines query third-party market-data sources (e.g. FRED, public market and on-chain feeds) to compute their analysis. These queries carry ticker/market identifiers, not your identity or account credentials.
We may also use privacy-respecting analytics to measure aggregate usage. If we engage additional processors, we will hold them to comparable data-protection standards. Each processor maintains its own privacy policy governing its handling of data.
04Cookies & Local Storage
We use cookies, browser local storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, secure your session, and understand how the Service is used. Strictly necessary cookies and local storage are required for authentication and core functionality. Analytics cookies, where used, help us measure aggregate engagement.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. Disabling strictly necessary cookies or local storage may prevent you from logging in or using parts of the Service.
05Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We retain newsletter subscription data until you unsubscribe. Billing records are retained as required for accounting, tax, and legal compliance. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it. You may request deletion as described below, subject to obligations that require us to retain certain records.
06Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). These may include the right to:
- →Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- →Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete information.
- →Deletion — request that we delete your personal information.
- →Opt-out — unsubscribe from marketing or newsletter emails at any time via the link in each email, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell or share your personal information).
- →Portability & objection — where applicable, receive your data in a portable format or object to certain processing.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@darkmatterresearch.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
07Children’s Privacy
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
08International Data Transfers
We and our processors may store and process information in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have data-protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as standard contractual clauses — for cross-border transfers of personal information.
09Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. Payment card data is handled by Stripe under PCI-DSS standards and never stored on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
11Contact Us
